Juventus have not been as active in the transfer market as many supporters would have expected, but there are clear signs of the direction the club intends to take during this summer’s transfer window.
One of the most significant decisions made by the club was replacing Damien Comolli with Giovanni Carnevali. After spending a long period in charge at Sassuolo, Carnevali has now taken on an important role at Juventus, with John Elkann placing his trust in him to oversee the club’s strategy.
Juventus adopt a different transfer approach
In the few weeks since Carnevali’s arrival, Juventus appear to have adopted a noticeably different approach from the one seen last summer. The Bianconeri view him as the right leader for the project and have concentrated much of their attention on recruiting players from Serie A, as well as Italian talent.
Although a move for Randal Kolo Muani could still be completed in the near future, Juventus have generally placed less emphasis on signing players from outside the Italian market than they did a year ago. The club’s recent activity suggests a stronger focus on identifying players who are already familiar with Italian football.
Greater emphasis on Serie A talent
Under Comolli, Juventus appeared to place little emphasis on the Italian market and instead looked abroad for reinforcements, completing the signings of Jonathan David, Lois Openda and Edon Zhegrova, all from outside Serie A.
This summer, the club has already completed the signing of Jeff Ekhator from Genoa and has also been linked with several other players currently competing in Serie A. That shift in strategy reflects a different recruitment philosophy under the current leadership.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Juventus intend to focus heavily on signing players from Serie A during this transfer window, representing a clear contrast to the club’s plans from a year ago. Whether that approach delivers the desired results will become clearer as the remainder of the transfer window unfolds and further business is completed.
