While Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham are still vying for the World Cup title this year, but Vinicius Junior and his Brazil were a sunk ship in the Round of 16 against Norway. The Real Madrid superstar left winger did all he could for his country, fighting valiantly by running the flank and creating chance after chance against Borussia Dortmund right back Julian Ryerson, but this rest of his team were not at all up to the task or the quality standard of the World Cup knockouts.
It has been a sobering set of days for Vinicius - a player who always wears his emotions on his sleeve with a great desire to win - but it has yielded a lot of positives for Madridistas. Finally, there is real movement on a contract extension between Real Madrid and Vini Jr., as fans have been rightfully frustrated with the fact that it has gotten to the final summer before his contract runs out.
According to reporting from Miguel Serrano, via the Madrid Zone, new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has played a key role in getting movement on the Vinicius Junior front. Mourinho told Vini personally that he needs him for the challenge ahead, and he sold Vini on the journey going forward, with both player and manager elated to be working with each other.
Vinicius Junior is ready to give his all
But maybe more importantly, Mourinho took the pressure off Vinicius. He told the Brazilian icon that it is OK for the young man to move on from the World Cup and close the chapter of that book. Mou emphasized to Vinicius that he has no need to feel guilty, and he even said what many Real Madrid fans were thinking at the time of that game against Norway: Vinicius was the only one who fit the standard of that heavy Brazil shirt.
One of the things that makes Jose Mourinho so great and actually even better at bigger clubs than the medium sized ones is his ability to relate to superstars and understand their psychology. He knows how much pressure Vinicius puts on himself and how emotional that can get and drag him down, so he is giving him the grace and the truth that he really did all he could.
Vinicius needs someone like that who is going to be a guiding hand and be honest with him. Xabi Alonso was way too much of an enemy, while Alvaro Arbeloa maybe swung too far on the other side of the pendulum.
