Fabrizio Romano: Leeds United table contract offer for centre-back signing, 49ers “confident”

Leeds United have to replace Pascal Struijk sooner rather than later. One of the options reportedly being pursued is Tarik Muharemovic.

United’s priorities for the summer window look to have shifted from being largely centred around our attack, to now being more focused on replacing key defensive options.

Karl Darlow has agreed to move to Old Trafford to make the goalkeeper position a pressing matter. Meanwhile, the search is on to replace Pascal Struijk with another left-sided centre-back.

Leeds United pushing hard to sign Tarik Muharemovic – Fabrizio Romano

On Saturday evening, Fabrizio Romano reported that Leeds had joined the race to sign Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic this summer.

Both Bournemouth and Sunderland are also credited with interest. But, Leeds are in the market to add a guaranteed starter to replace Struijk, which the Bosnian appears to be a priority for.

Now, Romano has added another crucial detail. He reports that United are pushing hard to secure his signature, with a contract verbally offered to the 23-year-old centre-back.

Not only that, but United are claimed to be “confident” of getting a deal done with Sassuolo despite rival interest. Talks are expected to follow into next week between the two clubs.

Leeds United could have significant coup in Tarik Muharemovic

Signing someone to replace and potentially improve on Struijk is a huge priority. So, this interest in Muharemovic makes me at ease, knowing we’re going about it the right way.

Those who were frustrated with Struijk’s lack of pace might not be too pleased to know Muharemovic isn’t blessed with a brilliant turn of speed either, but he’d certainly be an upgrade.

A strong defender on the floor and in the air, he’d fit right in very well next to Jaka Bijol and Joe Rodon.

Whether we can convince him over Sunderland and Bournemouth – two Europa League clubs – is hard to say. But, we just signed Harry Wilson over others, so who knows?
