Hull City step up Premier League preparation as pre-season begins with players expected detailed

Hull City's players kick off pre-season training on Monday morning, as preparations for life in the Premier League really gather pace.

Members of Sergej Jakirovic's squad were back at Cottingham towards the back end of last week for testing, but the proper work starts this week, and no doubt, they'll be pleased the sweltering temperatures of last week have eased in East Yorkshire a little.

City's players, which will include the likes of Abu Kamara and Abdus Omur, will spend the next few days getting to grips with life back in training, before jetting off to Slovenia next Monday morning for the first leg of their European trip.

Kamara and Abdus both spent last season out on loan, and while both face uncertain futures at the MKM Stadium, they will be aiming to catch the eye of Jakirovic, as will David Akintola.

Thimothee Lo-Tutala, Mason Burstow and Enis Destan are also expected to be part of the returning group, following their respective loan spells away, while a flurry of youngsters are also set to be involved.

Owing to his exploits at the World Cup, which saw Canada make it through to the Round of 32 before being knocked out by beaten quarter-finalists Morocco, Liam Millar has been given extended time off and won't join the squad until later in pre-season.

The returning squad, however, will be significantly lighter with the departures of Kyle Joseph, Ivor Pandur, Akin Famewo and last season's loanees, including Joe Gelhardt, Amir Hadziahmetovic and John Lundstram.

It will, however, be boosted by the arrival of Jack Butland and Oscar Zambrano, with Elliot Stroud likely to follow quickly, and another goalkeeper, too.

City's full pre-season schedule is set to be confirmed in the next couple of days, but it's understood they'll play twice against Turkish opposition whilst being based in the mountains outside Maribor, with one of those fixtures coming against Konyaspor. They're also expected to face more Super Lig opposition in Kasimpasa when they travel from Graz Airport to Istanbul for a long weekend. That game has been pencilled in for August 1 at their Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadium.

After returning to England, City will then have a week on UK soil before travelling to Europe to play another game abroad, followed by a final home outing, which is expected to be the Saturday before the opening game against Manchester United, against more opposition from the continent.
