Newcastle United open door to third major summer exit - and it's not Bruno Guimaraes

The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as Everton show interest in one member of Eddie Howe's squad.

Newcastle United could be facing a major decision over one long-standing member of their squad amid reports of interest from Premier League rivals Everton.

The Magpies have already authorised a number of departures this summer after Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali completed a deal to join Tottenham Hotspur and goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos returned for a second loan spell with Spanish club Sevilla. Harrison Ashby and Antonio Cordero have also made loan moves elsewhere after they joined Luton Town and Cadiz respectively and Travis Hernes sealed a permanent switch to Groningen after spending the majority of last season with the Eredivisie club.

Experienced heads Kieran Trippier, Matt Targett and John Ruddy also departed the club last month when their current contracts came to an end - and there are now reports suggested Everton are looking to secure a deal for Magpies winger Jacob Murphy as he enters into the final 12 months of his current contract at St James Park.

The long-serving winger joined the Magpies from Norwich City during the summer of 2017 and has gone on to make over 250 appearances for the club over the last nine years. Murphy enjoyed his most productive season during a historic 2024/25 campaign as he scored nine goals and provided 14 assists in 41 appearances as Eddie Howe’s side lifted the Carabao Cup and qualified for the Champions League.

However, Murphy failed to hit those heights last season and he could now be handed a chance to make a summer move away from Tyneside after one report suggested Everton have an interest in the former Norwich man.

Sky Sports News’ North East reporter Keith Downie posted on X: “Everton are keen on signing Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy. The 31-year-old has just 12 months remaining on his Newcastle contract and could leave this summer. Murphy signed for Newcastle nine years ago and has been a brilliant player for the club. He is one of a number of players Everton are considering, as they look to strengthen the forward line, including a return for Jack Grealish. No Everton offer for Murphy yet, but interest is there.”
