Player on the way to join Leeds United – ‘Decisive week’ for €40m signing

Leeds United are ready to get ahead of Sunderland and others in the race to sign Sassuolo’s Tarik Muharemović.

Three days ago, we relayed news Sunderland have identified the centre-back as their top target and Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí as an alternative.

A day later, Sport Witness covered claims that Sunderland offered him a five-year deal worth €3.5m net annually. Leeds United and AFC Bournemouth have also shown interest in the 23-year-old.

Leeds United leading race for signing

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Whites, Sunderland and AFC Bournemouth are keen on Tarik Muharemović.

This is the ‘decisive week’ for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international to decide between the Premier League trio.

Tuttosport also state Daniel Farke’s side, Sunderland the Cherries are keen and cover the latest.

Muharemović is likelier to move to the Premier League, where Leeds United are ‘pressing’ to sign him.

Leeds United’s plan for signing

Juventus had been interested, but them slowing down clears the path for the Elland Road club to sign Tarik Muharemović.

He has a contract until 2031, and Transfermarkt value him at €25m. However, Tuttosport claim the defender is ‘on the way’ to Leeds United this summer.

The Whites are willing to offer €40m to Sassuolo and a deal worth €3.5m per year until 2031 for the defender.

Despite not making progress, Juve will continue monitoring Leeds United’s efforts for the signing. The Turin club retain a 50% sell-on clause and will benefit from the Bosnian’s sale this summer.
