Leeds United star shrugs off Chelsea transfer question with admission fans will love - 'Hand on …

Leeds United might expect some transfer interest in their top players but it is no bad thing.

Gabriel Gudmundsson insists he is happy at Leeds United with reported transfer interest from Chelsea merely a sign he is playing well.

Gudmundsson has just completed his first season as a Leeds player which was extended by his participation in the World Cup with Sweden. The 27-year-old played all four matches as his nation made it to the last-32 before a 3-0 defeat against tournament favourites France.

That rounded off a relentless 12 months for Gudmundsson who since joining Leeds in a £10million deal last July, has played 48 games for club and country while also recently becoming a first-time father. And so reports of interest from Chelsea have barely landed on his radar.

“I haven’t had a focus on it because there has been so much with Leeds, the World Cup and then I have become a father now so I have really zoned out from that part of football,” he said, as quoted by Sport Witness. “But it’s nice that they see me as an alternative and it’s a sign that something good has been done, then we’ll see what happens but I’m happy where I am.”

With his bursting runs down the left and impressive work-rate, Gudmundsson swiftly became a fan favourite at Elland Road where he thrived in a more attacking wing-back role. And the feeling of appreciation is certainly mutual.

“Everything is so professional,” he added. “We have enjoyed ourselves since the first second we got there so we are very happy with the choice and are looking forward to what is to come.

“Hand on heart I can say that the Leeds fans are the best in England and they have supported us in a really good way this season. I don’t think you understand how big the club is until you are in it.”
