Fabrizio Romano drops major Brighton and Tottenham update as transfer record smashed

All the latest transfer news and gossip for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League

Brighton are all set to smash their transfer record this week.

The Seagulls have been in lengthy talks with Tottenham throughout the transfer window for Croatian international defender Luka Vuskovic.

The 19-year-old has been determined to join Brighton and it appears the two clubs have finally reached a £50m agreement.

Tottenham reportedly secured a 20 per cent sell-on clause as Vuskovic agreed a five-year deal.

The young centre back had previously been linked with the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Vuskovic is a huge deal for Brighton and his arrival surpasses the £40m they paid Leeds United for Georginio Rutter in 2024.

The deal is a huge boost for the Seagulls who earlier this window sold defender Jan Paul van Hecke to Tottenham for £52.

Vuskovic was on loan at Hamburg last season in Bundesliga and Sky Sports Germany reported that Brighton's German head coach Fabian Hurzeler was instrumental in the deal.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted: "The exclusive story on Luka Vušković to Brighton, set to become official this week.

"Medical booked, contract signing to follow as #BHAFC have their new centre back."

Brighton centre backs

Lewis Dunk and Olivier Boscagli remain Brighton’s centre back options from last season. Adam Webster and Joel Veltman both left this summer as their contracts expired, while Igor Julio and Eiran Cashin are also expected to leave.

Italian international Diego Coppola could also be on the move as the defender - who joined last summer from Verona - completes a move to Paris FC.

Austrian international Michael Svoboda joined from Serie B champions Venezia for around £5m and Pascal Struijk was drafted infrom Leeds United for £18m.

Struijk seems a very shrewd arrival and will allow the likes of Svoboda and Vuskovic to settle in.

Losing Van Hecke to Tottenham was a blow for Brighton but the replacements looks impressive as they Seagulls prepare to embark upon Premier League and Conference League football next season.
