And Dobbin, 23, is now set to complete a permanent move away to the second tier as Villa recoup almost all of the fee spent two years ago.
Dobbin is set to move to Southampton, who were kicked out of the Championship play-offs last term due to the ‘spygate’ scandal.
The Saints, under Tonda Eckert, are expected to be competitive in the division again in the coming campaign.

Dobbin’s loans away from Villa in the last two seasons included initially at Albion, where he struggled to make an impact.
He featured 18 times for the Baggies without scoring and started just a single league game.
An impressive half-season at Norwich followed, with two goals in 11 outings before last season was spent at Preston, where the wide attacker flourished.
He scored 10 goals and provided a further eight assists for the Lilywhites last term, with 11 goals in all competitions, including twice against the Saints.
