Mehrdad Ghodoussi blasts Luke Edwards as NUFC reporter makes fresh Guimaraes' claim

Mehrdad Ghodoussi has reacted to reports that Newcastle United’s former co-owner Amanda Staveley claimed Bruno Guimaraes would cost suitors £50 million. The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has reported this morning that a conversation the Newcastle captain’s representatives claim to have had with Staveley implied that a fee of about £50m would be acceptable to the Magpies if they failed to qualify for the Champions League. Arsenal have acted based on that following talks with intermediaries, but the Toons want around £100m to let Guimaraes leave the St James’ Park club.

Staveley has categorically denied that the conversation took place, and his husband, who is also a partner at PCP Capital Partners, took to social media to blast the claim.

Ghodoussi remains a huge Newcastle fan, following the club and every major story about them.

The club’s supporters and manager Eddie Howe will be desperate to hold on to the Brazilian after losing Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali already this summer.

The Magpies have also missed out on SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi to Aston Villa and letting Guimaraes could be a huge blow on their chances of impressing next season.
