Steur and a raft of senior stars, including Joelinton, Fabian Schar, Lewis Hall and Jacob Ramsey, were captured reporting back to the club’s Benton training base - now officially named The KNOX - for the first day of pre-season as preparations for the 2026/27 campaign got underway.
The Magpies have lost the likes of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth from the group but recruited three new faces so far in the shape of Ewen Jaouen, Bazoumana Toure and Steur.

French goalkeeper Jaouen became United’s first summer signing after arriving from Stade de Reims for £18million before Ivory Coast left winger Toure joined from Hoffenheim for £43million. Dutch midfielder Steur then arrived from Ajax for £23million last week.

Both Jaouen and Steur are available from the first day of pre-season, though it’ll be a little longer before Toure is as he joins Nick Woltemade, Malick Thiaw, Anthony Elanga and Bruno Guimaraes in having an extended break following their World Cup involvement.
Dan Burn is set to be the last player to report back, as he is still at the tournament preparing for England’s semi-final clash against Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Jaouen actually took part in some individual sessions at The KNOX last week as he looks to hit the ground running on Tyneside, while Steur has had a heart start after spending two weeks in pre-season training with Ajax before his transfer.
Newcastle supporters will get to see the pair in the flesh for the first time when Howe’s side make the short trip across the Tyne to face National League side Gateshead on Saturday, July 25.
Before that, the Magpies host National League North side Darlington, managed by defender Steve Watson, in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
Newcastle chiefs are working hard behind the scenes to add to the squad, with a number of key positions still to address. Midfield remains one area after Aston Villa hijacked their £49million move for Freiberg and Switzerland midfielder Johan Manzambi.
