Barnsley have confirmed the loan signing of an Ipswich Town goalkeeper

Barnsley have secured the signing of Ipswich Town goalkeeper Cieran Slicker on a season-long loan deal.

The 23-year-old is a product of Manchester City’s youth system and made the move to Portman Road in 2023.

He has not yet managed a first-team breakthrough with the Tractor Boys, although had plenty of senior exposure on loan in League Two with Barnet last season.

The Scotland-capped stopper has now stepped up to League One level, comitting to Barnsley for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign.

Daniel Stendel welcomes new Barnsley loanee

Reds head coach Daniel Stendel said: “We're very happy to bring Cieran to Barnsley. He is a goalkeeper with excellent quality, good experience for his age and a strong mentality. He has worked in top environments and shown his ability during his loan spell last season.

“Standing at 6ft 3in, he is a commanding presence in the penalty area and a modern goalkeeper who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet.

“We believe he will fit our style of play very well, be an important player for us, and we are excited to work with him.”

Cieran Slicker relishing ‘perfect step’

Slicker has hailed the move as the “perfect step” in his career having impressed in the fourth tier last season. He made 43 appearances in League Two for Barnet, who finished eighth in the table.

The goalkeeper said: “After last year, the next step was key for me, and I think this is the perfect step. It’s a massive club with a rich history and that’s what I want. I want to play in front of great fans in a stadium like this.”
