Everything you need to know about Manchester United's midfield transfer plans:
United have been looking to strengthen their midfield this summer with at least two, potentially three, new signings, after Casemiro left at the end of last season.
Six weeks ago, United had agreed an initial £35m fee for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. An official announcement was delayed due to the 27-year-old's late call-up to Brazil's World Cup squad.
In the meantime, the Reds agreed a £50m deal for Chelsea's Andrey Santos.
Over the weekend, United denied claims a move for Ederson had fallen through.
On Monday, the Manchester Evening News revealed that United are seeking to renegotiate the deal for Ederson after medical tests raised concerns about a knee injury sustained last season. The Reds continue to believe the transfer can be completed despite going back to the table to discuss the fee. Read the full story here.
Less than an hour later came the unexpected news that a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans was close to completion.
Villa and United are in advanced talks after Tielemans made it clear he wanted to move to Old Trafford. Up until Friday evening, the 29-year-old had been captaining Belgium at the World Cup.
Tielemans was determined to move to United once he learnt of their interest. He has two years remaining on his contract at Villa Park.
It's claimed Tielemans has a £35m release clause in his contract that United have triggered. Read the full story here.
