'Medical tomorrow': Man Utd poised to trigger £35m clause for PL midfielder after Andrey Santos …

Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans, as revealed by The Athletic.

The 29-year-old favours a move to Old Trafford despite interest from several other clubs.

Villa have no desire to lose one of their most influential players, but a £35 million release clause could leave them powerless to prevent his departure.

Tielemans joined the Midlands outfit from Leicester City on a free transfer in the summer of 2023 and he has two years remaining on his contract.

The Belgian captain has been linked with United on several occasions in recent years, but this time the transfer finally appears to be gathering serious momentum.

Journalist Samuel Luckhurst has already confirmed that Tielemans will undergo his medical tomorrow.

He enjoyed another outstanding campaign last season, registering two goals and seven assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.

His winning mentality is unquestionable, having lifted the FA Cup with Leicester City in 2021 before adding the Europa League to his honours list earlier this year.

United’s recruitment strategy has clearly shifted towards proven Premier League performers rather than expensive overseas gambles.

Tielemans perfectly fits that profile after spending seven successful years in English football.

Naturally operating as a deep-lying midfielder, he has built his reputation on his composure in possession and his ability to split opposition defences with incisive forward passes.

Playing vertical balls from deep was a major strength of Casemiro. Tielemans will bring that dynamic to Old Trafford.

He is already 29 and may not have any resale value, but he would still represent a worthwhile signing for £35m in today’s inflated market.
