Nottingham Forest are eyeing a move for Tottenham star.
Tottenham Hotspur have pretty much sorted out their defence and midfield for next season following their recent transfer activities.
Spurs have put together a record spend this summer, splashing out close to £240million so far. Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi have improved their defensive options, while the midfield unit has been future-proofed with big-money acquisitions of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
The transfer business done by the North Londoners has put the futures of several players in doubt. Lucas Bergvall is one of those. The Swede enjoyed a prominent role in his debut season at Tottenham, featuring 45 times in all competitions. The central midfielder’s game time reduced this past campaign thanks to intense internal competition and injury problems. He was limited to just 33 appearances.
However, following the arrivals of Tonali and Fernandes, Lucas Bergvall has now come to the conclusion he wants to leave Spurs and is not short of suitors. Aston Villa have recently registered their interest in the 20-year-old, identifying him as a replacement for the injured Amadou Onana. But Aston Villa are set to face competition from their Midlands rivals, Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest open talks with Tottenham for Lucas Bergvall
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest have opened talks with Tottenham over a move for Bergvall, despite the North Londoners’ stance that they want to keep the youngster. The Tricky Trees have identified the Swede as a replacement for Elliot Anderson, who is heading to Manchester City after the World Cup.
Spurs fought hard to beat Barcelona to the midfielder’s signature in 2024. While the Lilywhites are not actively looking to sell the Swedish international, a transfer could be sanctioned if their £50m valuation is met. Nottingham Forest are very much interested in the player and have made this clear by opening talks with Tottenham.
Despite the key decision-makers at White Hart Lane regarding him very highly, the 20-year-old could well move over game time worries, with the box-to-box midfielder eager for a change of scenery this summer. Bergvall is keen to make the switch and would jump at the opportunity to sign for Forest. He did not feature for his team in the final three games of last season, with De Zerbi opting for experienced players in the middle of the park. He managed just 112 minutes under the Italian tactician, starting just once during the run-in.
Now that Tonali and Fernandes have become the face of De Zerbi’s rebuild in N17, Bergvall is increasingly concerned his path to regular first-team football will be blocked. The Stockholm-born talent recently emphasised that consistent game time in his preferred central midfield role is his primary objective. And new Forest boss Oliver Glasner would be able to fulfil Bergvall’s wishes, whilst helping him reach his true potential.
Now that Sweden are out of the World Cup, we might see Forest table an official bid for Bergvall.
