Manchester United have officially announced the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea.
The Red Devils will pay an initial £48 million, with a further £2 million in easily achievable performance-related add-ons.
The 22-year-old successfully completed his medical last week before putting pen to paper on a [five-year contract at Old Trafford.](http://Andrey Santos signs for United https://www.manutd.com/en/news/andrey-santos-signs-for-manchester-united)
United accelerated their pursuit of Santos after missing out on top target Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham Hotspur.
Santos moved to the London outfit from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama in January 2023.
His first loan spell at Nottingham Forest proved disappointing, with the midfielder making only two appearances before being recalled midway through the season.
Chelsea then sent him to Strasbourg, where Santos finally showcased his immense potential.
The Brazilian enjoyed a sensational campaign in France, registering 10 goals and four assists in just 34 appearances.
He carried that momentum back to Chelsea, producing three goals and five assists in 47 appearances across all competitions last season.
He is predominantly a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a number eight.
His rapid rise has also been recognised internationally, earning him six senior caps for Brazil after progressing through every major youth level.
United are expected to recruit two more midfielders before the transfer window closes as INEOS continue their ambitious squad overhaul.
The Red Devils were close to signing Ederson but the transfer has now collapsed due to issues in his medical. They are now on the verge of signing Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa.
United also explored the possibility of signing Aurelien Tchouameni, but the Frenchman recently committed his future to Real Madrid by signing a new contract.
Alex Scott, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Manu Kone are among the other names on United’s transfer wishlist.
