Middlesbrough new boy sets targets as Boro face competition for Swedish star

The latest transfer talk from Middlesbrough as Kyle Joseph becomes Kim Hellberg's second summer signing.

Middlesbrough new boy Kyle Joseph has set his aims for his first season at the Riverside Stadium after the Hull City striker became Kim Hellberg’s second signing of the summer transfer window.

Boro kick-started their summer recruitment with the addition of versatile attacking midfielder Myles Peart-Harris after his departure from former Championship rivals Oxford United was confirmed. However, strengthening Hellberg’s attacking options has always been high on the agenda and Boro went some way to meeting that need when they handed Joseph a four-year contract after agreeing a deal with Hull City.

Speaking after wrapping up his move to Teesside, the former Wigan Athletic striker revealed his determination to ‘score goals and help the team win games’ as he prepares for the new Championship season. He told the club website: “I’m so delighted to sign for this massive club. It’s such an ambitious club and I really want to help it achieve its goals. I’m an all-action centre forward, but most importantly I want to score goals and help the team win games.”

Joseph’s former club thanked the forward for his ‘effort, dedication and contribution’ to a season that ended with a play-off final win against Boro. A statement read: "Hull City can confirm that forward Kyle Joseph has moved to Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee. A valued member of the Tigers’ play-off-winning side, the hard-working 24-year-old made 65 appearances in black and amber after signing from Blackpool in January 2025. All eight of his goals and five assists came during last season’s Championship promotion success, with his maiden effort coming away to Bristol City in August. We would like to thank Kyle for his effort, dedication and contribution to our promotion campaign, and wish him all the best for the future."

Boro face competition for midfielder

Middlesbrough have been strongly linked with a move for Malmö FF’ midfielder Otto Rosengren - but reportedly face competition for the once-capped Sweden international. The 23-year-old has caught the eye in recent weeks and is believed to have impressed a number of scouts with an impressive display in his side’s 4-0 win against Goteborg at the weekend. One report in Sweden has described Boro as favourites to secure Rosengren’s services before the end of the summer transfer window - but Expressen have now claimed German club Koln are also keen on a move and will offer a ‘larger transfer fee’.
