Former Albion favourite could be heading back to Premeir League

Villa boss Unai Emery wants his ex-Villarreal left-back Pervis Estupinan as a replacement for PSG-bound Lucas Digne.

Estupinan left the Seagulls for Milan this time last year in what looked a dream move for an initial £17 million plus add-ons, signing a contract until 2030.

But he had a stop-start season in Serie A.

His clear highlight was a winning goal against Inter but he often failed to impress.

Estupinan helped Villarreal win the Europa League when current Villa boss Emery was in charge.

He played a minor role for Ecuador at the World Cup after slipping behind Piero Hincapie in the pecking order.

Estupinan signed for Albion early in the 2022-23 season as left-back successor to Marc Cucurella and impressed as a high-energy contributor in that role.

Albion are well-equipped in that role now and had two starting left-backs at the World Cup in Ferdi Kadioglu with Turkey and Maxim De Cuyper with quarter-finalists Belgium.

Meanwhile Tariq Lamptey, whose time at Fiorentina was cut short by a serious knee injury, is back in private training as he looks for a new club.
