Leeds United are pushing hard in talks to sign centre-back Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo this week, having tabled a contract offer to the player.
The Whites need to kick into gear soon with more signings to follow the impressive capture of Harry Wilson.
Centre-back is high on the agenda after Pascal Struijk’s exit to Brighton. The 49ers, though, are said to be confident on their current top target.
Tarik Muharemovic price revealed as Leeds United pursue high-profile agreement
Sassuolo and Bosnia centre-back Tarik Muharemovic is the man that has entered the crosshairs over the weekend for Leeds.
It was claimed by Fabrizio Romano on Sunday that United have offered a contract to the 23-year-old in order to thrash out an agreement. Importantly, Sunderland and Bournemouth are also in the running and are able to offer Europa League football to the centre-back.
Now, Italian outlet Tuttosport claim that Leeds are willing to go as high as €40million (£34.1million) to sign Muharemovic. Should Leeds strike an agreement at such a price, Muharemovic would become our second-most expensive signing after, after Georginio Rutter’s £36million move from Hoffenheim.
Juventus remain on the fringes with their current interest. Interestingly, the Turin club hold a 50% sell-on clause in Muharemovic’s contract. So, even if they can’t sign him, they have a vested interest in seeing Leeds strike an agreement.
Despite Juventus, Sunderland and Bournemouth all being keen, it’s said that the “road is paved” for Muharemovic to seal a move to West Yorkshire.
Relaying the contract update from Romano, this report also notes the wages on offer to Muharemovic at Elland Road. It’s claimed he’d be on a contract until 2031, earning around £57,000-per-week.
Leeds United would make another huge statement by signing Tarik Muharemovic
I’m not willing to currently get too excited about Muharemovic playing for Leeds, given the interest from other clubs right now.
You wouldn’t blame him for joining clubs in the Europa League over us. But, the noises around this seem to suggest Leeds are closing in on getting this done.
Looking at how we go about replacing Struijk, Muharemovic looks like the best option out there. And this could potentially see us improve on the Dutchman.
£34million is a lot of money, but if Leeds want to start acting like a big club making big moves, this is some way to do it.
