Leeds United and Ipswich Town linked with Dutch talent – Spanish club already negotiating

Leeds United and Ipswich Town have emerged in the race for FC Volendam goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen. However, Valencia appear to have taken an early lead in the pursuit of the highly-rated Dutchman.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reports Valencia have entered talks with Volendam over the 22-year-old. Meanwhile, Spanish outlet ElDesmarque adds that the English pair are also interested in signing the goalkeeper this summer.

According to the Spanish report, Valencia have already spoken with Van Oevelen himself. The player is open to the move.

The La Liga side are looking for a young goalkeeper who can compete with Stole Dimitrievski while qualifying as an Under-23 squad member, making the Dutchman an attractive option.

For Leeds and Ipswich, though, the reports indicate they remain in the picture.

Dutch clubs also made their move

De Telegraaf explains Van Oevelen has attracted significant attention following an impressive campaign with Volendam.

FC Twente have held talks with the goalkeeper as they search for long-term competition for Lars Unnerstall. However, the Eredivisie side are now concerned Volendam’s asking price is beyond their budget. Jeffrey de Lange, currently at Marseille, and PEC Zwolle’s Jasper Schendelaar are among their alternative targets.

That asking price could prove historic for Volendam. The Dutch club believe a sale this summer should comfortably surpass the €1.4m (£1.2m) they received from Leeds United for Robert Molenaar in 1996, which remains their second-biggest outgoing transfer.

Only Micky van de Ven’s move to Wolfsburg, ultimately worth €8.5m (£7.4m), has generated a bigger fee in the club’s history.

Why Leeds and Ipswich could be interested

Kayne van Oevelen enjoyed a breakthrough 2025/26 season. He made 32 competitive appearances after establishing himself as Volendam’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Standing at 1.99m, he has built a reputation as a commanding presence. According to Transfermarkt, he now carries an estimated market value of €2m (£1.7m).

Neither De Telegraaf nor ElDesmarque suggests Leeds United or Ipswich Town have made formal offers at this stage, but both clubs are named among the interested parties as the goalkeeper’s future gathers momentum.

With Valencia already in discussions and the player reportedly receptive to the Spanish move, the English clubs may need to act quickly if they want to turn their interest into something more concrete.
