Aston Villa tracking Boca Juniors youngster – Riquelme unwilling to sanction early departure

Aston Villa are the latest Premier League club to be linked with Boca Juniors midfielder Tomás Aranda. Fresh reports from Argentina claiming Unai Emery’s side are closely following the youngster.

Arsenal have dominated recent speculation around the 20-year-old after several reports claimed the Gunners were monitoring his progress.

Now Aston Villa have entered the picture. Meanwhile, Boca are increasingly aware that interest from England is gathering pace.

According to Argentine outlets El Intransigenteand El Crack Deportivo, Villa have added Aranda to their shortlist. They say that a formal approach cannot be ruled out in the coming days.

Also, both reports states Boca president Juan Román Riquelme and manager Rodolfo Arruabarrena are on alert.

Aston Villa become latest admirers

Tomás Aranda enjoyed his breakthrough during the first half of 2026. He established himself in Boca’s first team after making his senior debut earlier this year.

The attacking midfielder has featured in 21 competitive matches, scoring once and providing two assists. His mature performances have seen him emerge as one of Boca’s brightest academy graduates.

El Crack Deportivo adds that Villa are considering whether to turn their interest into a formal proposal, although there is currently no suggestion that negotiations have begun.

The Premier League side are also unlikely to have a free run at the player. The same report says Inter Milan, Fiorentina, Bologna and Como continue to monitor his progress. We also covered interest from Parma earlier this month.

Boca keen to keep youngster

Boca are understood to have little interest in losing Aranda so soon after his emergence.

El Intransigente explains both Arruabarrena and Riquelme see Aranda as an important player for the club’s present as well as its future. Losing him before the new phase of the project has properly begun would be viewed as a significant setback.

The report adds Boca do not want to sanction a sale despite growing interest from Europe.

While there has been no formal offer, club officials reportedly accept the attention from abroad is genuine. They are already preparing for the possibility of approaches arriving later in the transfer window.

The midfielder is under contract until December 2029, putting the Argentine club in a strong position should concrete offers arrive.

For now, the Argentine reports stop short of claiming an offer has been made. Instead, they present Aston Villa as the latest Premier League club to join the queue, with Boca hoping another strong run of performances under Arruabarrena will only strengthen their position if interest becomes concrete later in the transfer window.
