Bournemouth’s plans for Julián Araujo remain unresolved as the defender has returned for pre-season following his loan spell at Celtic. The Mexican media suggest the next few weeks will determine whether he stays on the south coast or moves on again.
Mexican outletDebate reports Araujo has linked back up with Andoni Iraola’s squad. Even so, his future remains uncertain.
After spending the second half of last season at Celtic, the Mexico international is again being linked with a permanent move away, with the Scottish champions among the clubs still credited with an interest alongside several Liga MX sides.
For now, Bournemouth are expected to assess the 24-year-old during pre-season before making a final decision.
Bournemouth assess Araujo after Celtic loan
According to Debate, Bournemouth are weighing up their options. They will decide whether to keep Araujo or sanction a transfer before the end of the summer window.
The report claims the Cherries could be willing to negotiate if an offer arrives above the player’s current market value of around €8m (£6.9m). Bournemouth invested roughly €10m (£8.7m) to sign him from Barcelona in 2023. Naturally, they would hope to recover as much of that fee as possible.
The Mexican outlet stresses that no final decision has yet been reached. Araujo is reporting back for pre-season as Bournemouth continue their assessment.
Araujo faces another important summer
Julián Araujo spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic, but the move did not provide the fresh start he may have hoped for.
The right-back made just 11 appearances across all competitions, playing fewer than 900 minutes. Although he did manage to score once during his spell in Glasgow.
That limited involvement followed an injury-hit period at Bournemouth. Consequently, he was again unable to establish consistent momentum.
Earlier in his European career, Araujo had impressed during his loan at Las Palmas. His attacking quality and defensive reliability earned him a permanent move to Bournemouth. However, replicating that form has proved far more difficult since.
With pre-season now under way, Bournemouth have an opportunity to decide whether Araujo still has a place in Iraola’s plans. Alternatively, another departure may represent the best solution.
For Celtic, meanwhile, the report indicates his name remains in the conversation, but Bournemouth’s evaluation over the coming weeks is likely to determine what happens next.
