Leeds United have already found themselves linked with numerous players this summer.
However, a name that keeps cropping up time and again is Zion Suzuki.
The Parma goalkeeper, who starred for Japan in the World Cup, looks as though he will be on the move this summer.
If Leeds want to secure the 23-year-old, they will likely need to fend off competition from other Premier League clubs. With the latest reports now suggesting that another club have thrown their name in the hat for Suzuki.
Newcastle in ‘discussions’ with Zion Suzuki over a potential move
With Karl Darlow leaving Leeds as a free agent to join Manchester United, the Whites are in desperate need of a new goalkeeper this summer.
As well as Leeds, Aston Villa were the other club who themsevles have been frequently linked with Suzuki.
But now, according to the latest reports from the Chronicle Live, Newcastle are also said to be interested in the shot-stopper.
The report states that the player’s agency has been in contact with Newcastle over a potential move. A discussion regarding Suzuki is also said to have taken place.
However, Newcastle have not made a final decision regarding Suzuki and whether they want to really step up their pursuit of the shot stopper.
The Magpies did send a senior scout to watch Suzuki play for Japan against England back in March. So it would seem that Leeds may have more competition on their hands.
Newcastle’s interest in Zion Suzuki is bad news for Leeds
If Suzuki is the ideal candidate the 49ers want between the sticks, then the news that he has been in discussions with Newcastle is a major blow.
The more clubs join the race for him, the harder it is to ensure he ends up in West Yorkshire.
Graham Smyth has recently claimed that reports suggesting Leeds and Suzuki had agreed a deal were premature.
Now, reading the Chronicle’s report, it’s all beginning to make sense.
Suzuki’s agency is being extremely active this summer, trying to force a move. Hence why he’s making headlines every two minutes, it seems.
Undoubtedly, Suzuki is a talented player. But the way he is going about engineering his move away from Parma may give the 49ers something to consider this summer.
Time and again, it has been reiterated that the 49ers look to recruit the correct characters when signing new players.
And the more that comes out regarding Suzuki, I’m unsure whether he fits the bill.
