Jhon Lucumi remains one of Juventus’ leading defensive targets this summer as the Bianconeri continue planning for next season. However, the club may need to sell a defender before they can complete a move for the Bologna centre-back.
Lucumi has attracted considerable interest following his performances in Serie A, with Inter Milan also competing for his signature. Several Premier League clubs have also made enquiries, highlighting the growing demand for the Colombian defender during the current transfer window.
Juventus needs a defensive departure
The defender is reportedly keen to remain in Serie A and join one of the country’s leading clubs, a factor that could strengthen Juventus’ position in the race for his signature. Even so, the Bianconeri must first resolve their own squad situation before making a formal move.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Juventus need to sell Lloyd Kelly before they can sign Lucumí. The report states that raising funds through Kelly’s departure would also create room in the squad for the Bologna defender.
Juan Cabal and Federico Gatti have also been linked with possible exits, but Kelly’s departure is viewed as the most important step if Juventus are to proceed with their plans. The club must therefore balance incoming and outgoing transfers before advancing its pursuit of Lucumi.
Kelly’s future remains uncertain
At present, there are no clubs showing serious interest in Kelly, making it difficult for Juventus to complete the sale they require. If that situation remains unchanged, the Bianconeri could be forced to keep the English defender for another season.
Failing to generate funds through Kelly’s departure could also make it harder for Juventus to secure Lucumi, particularly with competition from other clubs continuing to grow. Delays in the transfer market may ultimately affect the club’s ability to strengthen its defence.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Kelly showed signs of improvement as last season progressed. If he remains in Turin, Juventus may hope he can continue developing and produce even stronger performances during the upcoming campaign.
