The Magpies reported back to their Benton training base - now officially known as The KNOX - on Monday, with Lewis Miley and Tino Livramento among those undergoing work in the gym.

Miley suffered a fractured fibula in training at the beginning of May, while Livramento was forced to pull out of England’s World Cup last month due to a calf injury that then required surgery.

Eddie Howe’s side host National League North side Darlington in a behind-closed-doors friendly this weekend before making the short journey across the Tyne to take on National League outfit Gateshead next Saturday.

After that, Newcastle travel to Championship club Bristol City before jetting off to La Manga for a training camp, which they round off with a friendly against Valencia at the iconic Mestalla Stadium.

On their return to UK soil, United take on Premier League rivals Everton at Murrayfield Stadium before ending their preparations with a St James’ Park double-header against Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg.

While an exact return date for Miley or Livramento is yet to be confirmed, the Magpies were hopeful the pair would return some time during pre-season, and photos released by the club’s media team would suggest that to be the case.

Miley was pictured doing some leg work while Livramento was captured on an exercise bike. The duo were pictured alongside several other first-team stars, including new £23million signing Sean Steur.

The squad was split into two groups on Monday, one of which trained in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
