Manu Koné: Manchester United and Aston Villa set for another transfer face-off

Manu Kone

Frosinone, Italy 16 August, 2025: Manu kone of Roma greets supporters at end of the friendly test-match between AS Roma and Neom FC (France) at the Benito Stirpe Stadium .

Aston Villa are ready to challenge Manchester United in the race to sign AS Roma’s Manu Koné this summer.

At the weekend, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Manchester United are ready to offer €50m for the midfielder, after contacting his agent.

On Monday, Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini opened the door for his exit. This would come as an encouragement for Manchester United, Aston Villa and his other suitors.

He said: “His future? I think these Financial Fair Play conditions are never so precise and defined; they vary from team to team. Roma also need to balance the books, which have been burdensome in recent years. I believe there will be more clarity in the coming weeks.”

Manchester United interest backed up

Tuesday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport relays Gian Piero Gasperini’s comments on Manu Koné and covers the latest.

Manchester United are closely monitoring the France international’s situation, after the AS Roma manager talked about his possible exit.

The interested parties have to offer more as the Serie A side have raised his price to €60m, a €10m increase from last week.

Roma want to wait until France’s World Cup campaign before making the final decision. The Giallorossi believes the 25-year-old’s value could increase further if he were to shine against Spain in the semi final on Tuesday.

Aston Villa join Manchester United

On Monday, the Red Devils completed the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea.

Earlier that day, several claims from the UK stated that Manchester United activated Aston Villa star Youri Tielemans’ £35m [€41m] release clause.

Santos’ signing and Tielemans’ impending arrival won’t stop Michael Carrick’s side from signing another midfielder. That’s according to ASRomaLive.it, who claims Manchester United are not ruling out signing Manu Koné.

The report also states Aston Villa have entered the race, after Amadou Onana suffered a serious injury while with Belgium at the World Cup. ASRomaLive.it makes it clear it’s their own information.

In recent days, Unai Emery’s side made a concrete approach to find out the conditions to sign Koné. The Italian club won’t sell him for a fee less than €60m, although that may be negotiating talk.
