Transfer verdict delivered on Hull City's Jack Butland deal with Rangers

Hull City's sole summer signing so far, Jack Butland, could prove to be a very astute piece of business, according to Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips.

Butland arrived from Rangers in a deal thought to be in the region of £3m at the beginning of the month, with City's former Player of the Year Ivor Pandur going in the opposite direction.

The experienced former England goalkeeper will provide competition for another new arrival, with the Tigers working on another deal for a stopper.

At the age of 33, Butland has played almost 500 senior games for a host of clubs, and has vast experience of playing in the Premier League for Stoke City and Crystal Palace, having made his Three Lions debut at the age of just 19.

"Thirty-three is nothing nowadays. For a goalkeeper, yes, they put a lot of strain on their body, but 33 years of age is nothing," Phillips told BestBettingSites.

"Jack looks after himself. I know him. I played with him at Birmingham. I think they’ve paid around £3million for him.

"I think it could be a massive bargain. He played every minute for Rangers last year.

"So that’s going to help him. He’s fit. I think it could be a really, really good signing for Hull.

"He’s got that experience, and that’s what you need when you’re trying to stay in the Premier League. So, yeah, good signing."
