Alexis Mac Allister revealed the emotions that came with scoring a goal in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The Liverpool midfielder opened the scoring for Argentina with a clinical header in their clash with Switzerland at the weekend.

The reigning champions went on to win the tie 3-1 after extra-time and advance to a last-four showdown with England on Wednesday.

Reflecting on what went through his mind while scoring, Mac Allister said: “A lot of things. Especially my family, the people who support me.

“And obviously from that moment on, we could see the ticket to the semi-finals coming.

“So, it was very special.”
