Stefano in the Sky Blue
We are delighted to announce that a new member from overseas has joined this Association. Welcome to our Italian former forward from the late 1990s Stefano Gioacchini! We were put in touch with Stefano by his son Chandon who lives in the UK, retains ‘a strong emotional connection’ to our club who and facilitated the contact. Chandon is actually a ‘Cov Kid’ born at Walsgrave hospital whilst his Dad was at CCFC!
Chandon was due to visit his father at his home city (Rome) earlier this month and we sent him our Association tie and membership badge to take with him on his visit. Stefano was delighted to sign for CCFPA and Chandon took some photos of him and his delighted dad with the tie and badge and a framed personal shirt proudly on display in his home. We share these with you today.
Stefano in Sky Blue action v Arsenal
For the record the now 49 year old ex Sky Blue was signed as a young prospect on loan from Venezia in January 1999 joiningnow fellow Association member Gordon Strachan’s squad. Though he had several outings in the Sky Blues’ reserves he was given only three opportunities to play in CCFC’s first team, each off the bench at the end of the 1998-99 season.
After a few games spent warming the bench Stefano made his Sky Blue Premier League debut at Arsenal in a 2-0 defeat on 20th March 1999, featured briefly again in an 1-0 home win in early April against Southampton and his last Sky Blue outing was in a single goal defeat at Leicester City late that April. He then returned home to play for Italian Serie B side Cosenza (for the second time).

Starting out with Quayside Warriors he played for Perugia (1994), Cosenza (1995) and Venezia (1997) pre City. After rejoining Cosenza Stefano featured for Salernitana (2001) and Lodigiani/Cisco Roma (2004) as well as Rieti (2006) and Lupa Frascati (2006-09). Therefore in his career, he made 3 appearances in Serie A, and 119 appearances in Serie B, scoring 56 goals in total.
Chandon tells us Stefano is hoping to come over to the UK this August and this may coincide with a pre-season game for the Sky Blues or even a Premier League match over a quarter of a century since he played for us in the top division! We hope this can be arranged!
