‘Decisive hours’ for Leeds United transfer – Player looks destined for Elland Road

Leeds United’s move for Tarik Muharemovic is in the ‘decisive hours’, with negotiations very much underway.

Journalist Marco Conterio reports that Leeds United’s move for the 23-year-old Sassuolo centre-back is advancing.

Leeds United push

Leeds are on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer following Pascal Struijk’s departure to Brighton and Hove Albion. Tarik Muharemovic has quickly emerged as the leading candidate to fill the gap.

Sport Witness covered a report yesterday explaining that this was a ‘decisive week’ for Leeds move. It was made clear that Daniel Farke’s side are pushing to seal a €40m deal for the youngster.

A second report today then explained that Leeds were increasing the pressure. They want to beat Sunderland and Newcastle to the centre-back’s signature this summer.

That pressure appears to have worked. Journalist Marco Conterio now reports that the deal is in the ‘decisive hours’ stage.

According to his information, negotiations are underway between Leeds and Sassuolo over a deal worth €35-40m. There is growing confidence that deal could be finalised sooner rather than later.

Leeds United paying big

Juventus are keeping a close eye on the potential transfer. Muharemovic is a product of their youth academy, joining the U19s in 2021 and featuring for their Next Gen squad the following year.

He joined Sassuolo on loan in 2024 and then signed permanently in a €2m deal last summer.

As part of that agreement, Juventus are due to ‘receive 50% of any future resale fee’. Whether that’s 50% of the fee or the profit, isn’t made clear. But they are due a big payday either way.

At €35m, Tarik Muharemovic would become Leeds’ second most expensive signing of all time. Brenden Aaronson currently holds that position at €32.84m. A €40m deal would push him close to the current record signing, Georgino Rutter. He cost €40.5m to sign from Hoffenheim in 2023.
