New twist in Nottingham Forest defender saga – Brazil divided over possible transfer

Nottingham Forest defender Jair Cunha continues to generate plenty of transfer talk in Brazil, but the latest reports are telling two very different stories.

Vasco da Gama have been trying to bring the 21-year-old back to Brazil for weeks. Earlier reports claimed talks had restarted over a loan with an option to buy.

Now, though, the Brazilian media cannot agree on whether a deal is actually possible.

Vasco see fresh opportunity

According to RTI Esporte, Vasco feel the situation has improved since Oliver Glasner took charge at Nottingham Forest.

The report says the Austrian is still assessing his squad before deciding who stays and who leaves. Vasco believe that process could open the door to a season-long loan for Jair Cunha.

In one of the latest developments to this story, negotiations had reportedly been put on hold after Pedrinho’s temporary removal from Vasco’s board. Now that he is back in charge, we already covered that the conversations are moving again.

Another report says the opposite

That is where the story takes a bit of a twist. Journalist Lucas Musetti is reporting something very different.

According to his information, people close to Jair Cunha have completely ruled out a loan move to Vasco. Indeed it is a stance we have already seen in past reports.

Instead, Musetti says Nottingham Forest would only be prepared to discuss a permanent transfer, and only if a club was willing to pay a significant fee.

That version also clashes with RTI Esporte’s suggestion that Jair Cunha wants to return to Brazil. Throughout this story, previous reports have statedthe defender’s priority is to stay in England and establish himself at Forest, even with interest continuing to arrive from Brazilian clubs.

For now, Vasco’s interest is not in doubt. What is far less clear is whether Nottingham Forest are actually prepared to let Jair Cunha leave.
