Southampton are being linked with a Bundesliga signing as they attempt to plot their way back to the Premier League. The Saints came close last season, controversially reaching the play-off final before being booted out due to the whole spygate scandal.
The impact of the spying will be argued, but what we do know is that Southampton were a top six team, and they will feel they are not too far away from being automatic promotion candidates, which will be the aim for the coming season.
Southampton have made a strong start to the summer, snapping up Cyle Larin on a permanent deal after his hugely impressive loan spell, while George Long was signed on a free and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Daniel Peretz was snapped up on a deal worth more than £6million. More signings are planned, and another Bundesliga star is the latest to be linked.
Southampton plotting move for Bundesliga winger

According to Bild, Southampton are weighing up a move for Werder Bremen winger Justin Njinmah, who scored five times in the German top flight last season, adding to three goals and four assists the season before.
The report claims Southampton and Hull City are both weighing up a deal, but it's unclear whether the wideman will be willing to make the move, particularly when it comes to the Saints, who are naturally a step down in terms of the league they play in.
The 25-year-old is valued at £4.2million by Transfermarkt, although it's likely Werder Bremen would ask for more than that. Still, he is likely to be a relatively affordable signing, especially for a Bundesliga winger.
Njinmah an 'absolute weapon'

Njinmah is known for his electrical pace and abilty to beat full-backs with quick feet. Describing the winger in 2024, Werder Bremen licensing director Clemens Fritz said: "He just has an element in his game with which he can always create a goal threat. It's extremely difficult for any defender to tackle him. He's in excellent form and played a great game again today."
Then teammate, Marvin Ducksch, who is now with Birmingham City, said: "Anyone who can run that fast and then use it well is, I think, an absolute weapon for any team. Now he's playing from the start, showing more and more what he can do, getting more and more involved in our game and is hugely important for us right now."
