Sunderland are one of multiple sides interested in Barcelona and Sweden winger Roony Bardghji.
According to Naveen Ullal from Sports Witness, Aston Villa, Brighton, Fulham, Leeds United and of course Sunderland are reportedly are all in the race for him. Leeds seemed to be leading the way initially, seeking a loan for the winger, however they now have firm competition from fellow Premier League sides.
Bardghji only signed for Barcelona last summer, but has failed to live up to expectations since joining from Danish side Copenhagen. After a break out season in 23/24, including scoring the winner in a 4-3 victory over Manchester United at Parken in the Champions League, he suffered a serious knee injury which ruled him out of most of the 24/25 campaign. This did not stop Barcelona swooping in, though, paying just 2 million euros with some performance based add-ons.
The question could be asked whether the knee injury has caused his lack of impact at the Nou Camp, or whether the competition with Raphinha, Marcus Rashford and of course Lamine Yamal have made it difficult for the Swede.
Sunderland will definitely need to add more quality out wide, with creativity lacking at times in those areas throughout last season. On top of the departure of Bertrand Traore and rumoured interest in Simon Adingra, it’s a position we will need to add to.
With no bid yet put in it’s hard to tell how strong our interest is, but he would fit our recruitment model, a young player who has maybe lost his way a bit in need of somewhere to settle.
