Manchester United have announced the signing of Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. United have landed the midfielder for £35million, and he has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford.

Villa did not want to lose Tielemans this summer, but he expressed a desire to move to Manchester. The 29-year-old spent three years at Villa Park and joins United after winning the Europa League last season.

Tielemans previously played for Leicester City in the Premier League. He spent four seasons with the Foxes, notably scoring the winner in their 1-0 FA Cup final victory against Chelsea in 2021.

Tielemans captained Belgium at the World Cup this summer. He started every match at the tournament, scoring twice, until he missed his nation's quarter-final clash against Spain after picking up a knock in the pre-game warm-up.

United planned to overhaul their midfield in this transfer window, and Tielemans arrives at the club following the signing of Andrey Santos.

The Reds announced the signing of Santos from Chelsea in a £50m deal on Monday afternoon. United have paid a combined £85m for Tielemans and Santos after declining to meet West Ham's valuation of Mateus Fernandes for the same price.

United are set to make another midfield signing before the end of the summer transfer window. Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha are two players on the club's radar.

Tielemans played a pivot role in Villa's success during his time in Birmingham. He is a versatile central midfielder, and his range of passing is considered one of his biggest strengths.

The midfielder began his career in Anderlecht's academy in Belgium before moving to Monaco in the summer of 2017. He was loaned to Leicester two years later and joined permanently after that stint.

Michael Carrick's side will play the first pre-season friendly of the summer against Wrexham in Finland on Saturday.
