£4.5m Leeds United man nears exit as winner of transfer pursuit is named

Leeds United are close to bidding farewell to forgotten full-back Isaac Schmidt, as he nears a move back to Switzerland.

The Whites have a handful of fringe players that look firmly outside of Daniel Farke’s plans for the 26/27 season.

Ideally, permanent exits will be confirmed after the bulk of them returned from season-long loan spells last season.

Leeds United full-back Isaac Schmidt closing in on Young Boys transfer

Isaac Schmidt returned to Leeds’ squad this month after a fairly underwhelming loan at Werder Bremen last season. The Bundesliga club opted against buying the Swiss defender, as they did Max Wober too.

Now, the wing-back is set to return to Switzerland less than two years since he left that league to join the Whites in a deal worth up to £4.5million.

The YEP had reported of interest from Swiss giants FC Basel and Young Boys. Now, Berner Zeitung report that the 26-year-old is heading to the latter, Young Boys winning the race.

The specifics of how Young Boys intend to structure the deal to sign Schmidt from Leeds isn’t clear. One would imagine if possible, Leeds would be selling the wing-back permanently after a forgettable spell in West Yorkshire.

Leeds United need to find permanent buyers for our fringe players

Schmidt is one of multiple that has no future at Leeds after a loan spell away from the club last season. Thankfully, it looks as though he’s bringing his time here to an end.

He’s not the only one. Wober, Joe Gelhardt, Jack Harrison, and potentially even Mateo Joseph and Largie Ramazani will find it incredibly hard to get back into Farke’s plans.

So, if the right permanent offers come in for these players, we have to be cashing in to boost our budget.

If these players leaving allows us one or two more signings to bulk out our squad, then it’s very important we get it done.
