Leeds United reach £34m transfer agreement for World Cup star

Leeds United look to have beaten off competition from two Premier League rivals for the defender.

Leeds United have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic.

The YEP understands a preliminary deal for a fee in the region of €40million (£34.1m) has been agreed. Player terms are still to be finalised but Leeds have taken a big step towards quickly filling a major gap in the starting-XI.

Premier League rivals Sunderland and Bournemouth were also believed to be interested in Muharemovic. But Leeds are in pole position following the agreement with Sassuolo.

Muharemovic played 32 Serie A games for Sassuolo last season, scoring twice to secure an 11th-place finish for the newly-promoted side. The Bosnian initially joined on loan in Serie B and helped achieve promotion during the 2024/25 campaign.

Muharemovic’s former club Juventus are due to receive 50 per cent of the fee, equating to around £17m, should Leeds get the deal over the line. The Whites fly over to the USA to start their pre-season tour next week.
