Leeds United given green light to finally secure Shea Charles deal: View

Shea Charles is a player who Leeds United have been publicly pursuing this summer.

Typically, the 49ers’ transfer business is dealt with behind closed doors. We typically only hear about deals when they are complete or on the verge of being completed.

For one reason or another, this has not happened with Charles. We know that Leeds have had a couple of bids knocked back for the midfielder. Their most recent offer was a reported £23million plus add-ons.

But with talks still ongoing, Leeds look as though they have been given the green light to secure Charles, according to the latest reports.

Southampton anticipating a sale for Shea Charles this summer

Last week, Ben Jacobs posted on X that both Fulham and Crystal Palace have also entered the race to buy Charles.

But now, Jacobs has provided a further update on the saga regarding the Northern Ireland international.

According to Jacobs, there have been no new developments regarding Charles yet. But, due to the sheer volume of interest in the 22-year-old, Southampton are now fully anticipating that Charles will leave at some point this summer.

With Southampton now ultimately resigned to losing their midfield talent, this can only be good news for Leeds.

You would imagine that we are way ahead of Fulham and Palace in potential negotiations. So now that Southampton know they will likely have to sell Charles one way or another, hopefully this makes them more likely to come to terms with Leeds on a deal.

Shea Charles deal needs to be secured ASAP

Recently, Leeds have posted that the players are back in training for pre-season. Before we know it, the new season will already be upon us.

That is why, if we do want to sign Charles, a deal needs to be finalised imminently.

You would imagine that the fee it will cost to sign Charles will be a relatively large portion of our budget for the summer.

So, until a deal for Charles is done, the 49ers will not know how much they have to spend elsewhere.

I still feel there are far more pressing issues in this Leeds squad that need to be addressed before we sign another midfielder.

Goalkeeper, left-back, left-centre back, winger and striker are all areas I’d personally have looked to bolster before signing another midfielder.

But the 49ers seemingly think that Charles will significantly elevate Daniel Farke’s squad.

I hope we get a resolution to this Charles saga soon. That way, we can move on to addressing the areas of our squad that desperately need attention.
