Tottenham to battle Aston Villa and Brighton for Guinean midfielder often compared to N’Golo…

Tottenham are planning to add another midfielder after the big-money signings of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

It has been an incredible summer transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur so far. Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Martin Dubravka, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Jan-Paul van Hecke have all arrived through the door at the club.

The marquee signings of Tonali and Fernandes have elevated the quality of Tottenham’s midfield, adding composure, tenacity, physicality and top-flight experience. The duo will be crucial in controlling the tempo of games in the engine room next season.

At the same time, there are a couple of midfielders who want to depart White Hart Lane in search of regular game time. Lucas Bergvall is one of those, with Nottingham Forest reportedly opening talks with Spurs for the Swedish talent. Latest reports suggest Newcastle United are keen on Archie Gray to replace Tonali in their midfield. The Tottenham chiefs do not want to lose either of them but are still preparing themselves for any surprise late exits.

Tottenham in a three-way Premier League battle for Guinean midfielder Ousmane Diabate

According to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham, Brighton and Aston Villa are monitoring the development of Ousmane Diabate at Genclerbirligi Ankara. They have sent scouts to watch the teenager in recent months.

Ousmane Diabate has enjoyed an encouraging debut season in Turkey after arriving from Conakry’s Académie SOAR in 2025. The defensive midfielder made his senior international debut for Guinea, featuring in a May 2026 friendly against Northern Ireland. Having already drawn comparisons with two-time Premier League winner N’Golo Kante thanks to his ball-winning, tactical intelligence and physicality, the Guinean appears ready for a big move away from Genclerbirligi already.

The report adds that Tottenham and Brentford have both already made contact with Genclerbirligi to find out the details of a deal. The 18-year-old is under contract with the Turkish club that would allow him to depart for a fairly modest fee this summer, especially given their crunch financial situation.

While his stock is rapidly soaring, Diabate and his entourage will be keen to ensure the midfielder joins a club where he can gradually develop rather than being thrown into a high-pressure environment too soon or sitting on the periphery without much involvement.

From Tottenham’s perspective, it’d be extremely difficult for De Zerbi to guarantee Diabate minutes in the upcoming season. He has added Tonali and Fernandes for hefty fees, and one would assume that the duo will feature almost in every Premier League fixture, provided they stay fit and healthy. Beyond them, the likes of Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr will also be waiting for their opportunities to impress.

So, what Spurs can do is sign Diabate this summer and loan him out to a club playing in Europe. They must identify a club that would be willing to give the African prodigy regular opportunities to play and showcase his skills. If the teenage prospect and his entourage can align to such an agreement, Tottenham must quickly sign him from Genclerbirligi.
