'Open to selling': Barcelona contract crisis gives Man Utd a dream chance to sign 21-goal star

Manchester United have been handed a golden opportunity to sign Barcelona forward Ferran Torres this summer.

The Athletic reported that Barcelona are open to selling Ferran Torres this summer due to a special clause in his contract.

The Spanish international has entered the final year of his deal at the Camp Nou, with no agreement over an extension currently in sight.

Renewing his contract would reportedly force Barcelona to pay around €8m (£6.8m) to Manchester City, creating an unexpected financial dilemma.

The Catalan giants originally signed Torres from Man City in January 2022 in a deal worth a total package of €65m.

It has also been reported that sporting director Deco is reluctant to sanction a new deal precisely because of the sizeable payment owed to City.

This summer represents the last opportunity for the Spanish champions to recoup any part of their investment by selling the forward.

Ferran Torres could become a bargain opportunity

Barcelona are already blessed with an abundance of attacking talent.

Lamine Yamal and Raphinha remain the undisputed first-choice wingers, while Anthony Gordon has also arrived at the Camp Nou.

A move for Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi is also expected to be completed soon.

United are investing heavily to revamp their midfield. They have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans for a combined fee of £85m.

INEOS are still expected to recruit one more physically dominant midfielder capable of becoming the marquee addition of the summer.

If United can negotiate a bargain deal for Torres, they could secure a versatile attacker without significantly disrupting their transfer budget.

The Spaniard enjoyed the most prolific campaign of his career last season, scoring 21 goals and providing three assists in 49 appearances across all competitions.

Although he operated primarily as a striker last season, Torres is also capable of performing effectively on either wing.

Now entering the peak years of his career, he could prove to be one of the smartest value-for-money signings available to United this summer.
