Development squad quintet set for chance to impress Rose on Austria pre-season camp

Remy Rees-Dottin, Harold William, Malcom Dacosta Gonzalez, Charlie Stevens, and Zac Christie have been training with the first team since the squad returned for testing at the weekend, and they will head to the Alps as a part of the group next week.

Rees-Dottin is the player with the most first team experience, having made three appearances off the bench across the 2024/25 and 25/26 seasons.

One has come in the league, when the 20-year-old came on late in the 4-1 win at Newcastle in January 2025, having been on the bench for the previous three games, and then the three following games.

Two have come in the FA Cup, with another late cameo against West Brom the week before the Newcastle clash, and it was at St James’ Park where he made his sole first team appearance last term off the bench for the final eight minutes of extra time.

Christie is the youngest of the quintet at 16 and made his development squad at the age of 15 having joined the club when he was eight.

His performances for the Cherries’ age-group sides were recognised by an England U16 call-up in December 2025.

The midfielder is the son of former Derby County, Middlesbrough, and Leeds player Malcolm Christie.

Nineteen-year-old William signed a new long-term contract at the Cherries in May, after he joined the club from Charlton in 2023, where he had been since the age of 14.

The defender, who can play in midfield too, went on the pre-season tour to the USA for the Premier League Summer Series last summer, before an impressive campaign for Alan Connell’s development squad.

Dacosta Gonzalez is another with first team matchday squad experience in the group and he has been with the club since signing as an under-11.

He was born in Alicante in Spain but moved to England when he was a child.

He has represented Ecuador at U15 and U17 level, as well as training with the senior squad, for whom his uncle, Máximo Banguera, represented as a goalkeeper.

The 18-year-old was named on the bench for the first team on seven occasions last season, six in the league and one in the cup.

Stevens joined the Cherries as an under-eight and progressed through the ranks to the development squad, signing a new contract in May.

The midfielder went to the U19 European Championships this summer with Wales as they made their competition debut as hosts.

They were knocked out in the group stage after three heavy defeats to Spain (7-0), Germany (4-0), and Denmark (3-0), but there were plenty of minutes for the Cherries youngster.

He came on as a halftime sub vs Spain, played 19 minutes off the bench vs Germany, and started the final game vs Denmark, before he was replaced after 71 minutes.
