Wolves man eyed as replacement for Aston Villa and Leeds United transfer target

Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa is on Olympiacos’ radar, according to journalist Konstantinos Lianos on X.

Wolves could cash in on the stopper this summer following their relegation from the Premier League last season. WWFC slipped out of the top flight after finishing in the bottom three along with West Ham and Burnley and will be eyeing an immediate promotion.

Sa, 33, is out of contract at the end of the next campaign and he is due to become a free agent in June 2027 as things stand. He has made 170 appearances for the Midlands outfit in all competitions to date and has kept 40 clean sheets.

However, in this latest update regarding his future, reporter Lianos has claimed on X that he is wanted by Olympiacos in this transfer window. The Greek giants apparently see him as a replacement for Konstantis Tzolakis, who Lianos suggests Aston Villa, Leeds United, Hull City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Coventry City are keen on.

Wolves risk losing Sa for nothing in 12 months if they don’t sell him now or in January, assuming he doesn’t pen an unlikely extension in the meantime. Therefore, most signs point towards a permanent exit over the coming weeks.

Wolves probably won’t stand in Sa’s way if his valuation is met and that would help free up space and funds in their squad to pave the way for reinforcements. A departure from WWFC to Olympiacos would suit all parties involved.

He would get regular game time and a change of scene. Meanwhile, the Greek Super League club would receive a safe pair of hands to step into Tzolakis’ shoes, assuming he is sold to one of his many suitors.

Wolves’ goalkeeping department is in line for a shake-up. As well as Sa, Sam Johnstone also remains on their books but he has been linked with a switch to Everton.

New head coach Cesar Peixoto, who was brought in after Rob Edwards’ dismissal, will want to put his own stamp on his newly inherited ranks. A new number one will be high up on his list of priorities.

The Verdict: Wolves need to sell Jose Sa in this transfer window

Wolves need to freshen things up and should cut ties with Sa. He lost his place between the sticks last term for WWFC and should now move on for a fresh start.

The Portugal international has been a good servant to the club though over the past few years. It is a shame his stay has likely ended in relegation to the Championship though.
