Sunderland goalkeeper Isaac Allan is closing in on another loan move after impressing during Hebburn Town’s promotion-winning campaign
Sunderland goalkeeper Isaac Allan looks set to return to Hebburn Town on loan ahead of the new season.
The Echo understands discussions are ongoing between the two clubs over another temporary move for the former Lincoln City youngster, who impressed during a successful spell with the Hornets last term.
Allan played an important role as Hebburn secured the Northern Premier League title and promotion to National League North, earning valuable senior experience in the process. A return would allow the goalkeeper to continue his development at a higher level while working in a familiar environment where he has already established himself.
Hebburn are preparing for the demands of National League North football following their promotion and are keen to bring Allan back as part of their plans for the new campaign. The move would also make sense for Sunderland, with regular competitive minutes viewed as particularly important for young goalkeepers. Allan would be able to train during the week within Sunderland’s academy structure while testing himself consistently in senior football.
The Black Cats have made several changes to their goalkeeping operation in recent months, with Neil Cutler overseeing a wider restructure across the first-team and academy groups. James Montgomery has joined as Head of Academy Goalkeeping and under-21 lead, while the club continue to assess the most suitable pathways for their younger players.
No agreement has yet been formally completed, but talks are progressing over a second spell at Hebburn. Allan originally joined Sunderland after leaving Lincoln City and remains highly regarded at the Academy of Light following his performances during Hebburn’s title-winning campaign.
