Ethan Ampadu outlines Leeds United transfer truth as Harry Wilson chats revealed - 'Onto him'

Leeds United had a few inside agents when convincing Harry Wilson a move to Elland Road was right for him.

Ethan Ampadu’s Leeds United transfer pitch to Harry Wilson consisted of nothing more than the truth about life at Elland Road.

Wilson officially became a Leeds player earlier this month, signing a four-year contract following his departure from Fulham as a free agent. The 29-year-old was not short of suitors after a season in which he registered 17 Premier League goal contributions but ultimately felt West Yorkshire was the best move for him.

Last season’s impressive 14th-place finish will have strengthened Leeds’ pull and Wilson had a few familiar faces to call, not least Welsh teammate Ethan Ampadu who wasted no time selling the move. But there were no false promises or sly tactics from the Whites captain.

“Yeah I texted him a couple of times,” a grinning Ampadu told LUTV. “Everyone’s aware that last year there was speculation going around so we [Ampadu and Joe Rodon] were both onto him then.

“This summer, over the course of whenever you’re away with Wales and people speak about how it is at the club. Luckily we’re fortunate to just give honest praise about what it’s like being here at Leeds.

“So those conversations were pretty much similar to telling him what it’s like, how good he would be for us, how good he will be for us. Thankfully he made the right decision.”

Ethan Ampadu looking forward to USA tour

Ampadu and Wilson reported for pre-season testing this week as the squad returned from their well-earned summer breaks. Next week, Daniel Farke and his players will fly over to the USA for three games against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool.

They will be heading the opposite way to a number of their 2026/27 Premier League rivals who have been competing at the World Cup, which ends on Sunday. Ampadu hopes Leeds can provide a little more excitement for the US-based supporters.

“It's massive,” he said of the upcoming tour. “We know Leeds fans everywhere. Obviously with the World Cup and being in America now and the growth of football out there, I'm sure it is going to get even bigger.

“So to go out there just after a World Cup, hopefully the fans aren't bored of football and we can give them something to be excited about, to look forward to ahead of the season coming. It's going to be good and it's going to be fun, so yeah, we're excited for it.”
