Ipswich Town transfer rumour - Blues 'one to watch' in race for Chelsea striker

That's according to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, who claims that the Blues are 'one to watch' in the race to sign the Spaniard this summer.

Guiu was a loan target for Town following relegation to the Championship last summer, but he was against the idea of playing below the Premier League, instead joining newly-promoted Sunderland.

However, he was quickly recalled by Chelsea following an injury to ex-Ipswich man Liam Delap, meaning that he only made two appearances for the Black Cats.

The 20-year-old, who came through the ranks at FC Barcelona, could be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. The Athletic have revealed that Guiu is expected to depart on loan or permanently before the transfer window closes, with interest from English and foreign clubs.

Meanwhile, speaking on the London is Blue podcast, Jacobs has claimed that Ipswich are 'one to watch' in the race to sign him this summer.

"I think it's not impossible that Marc Guiu is sold permanently," he said. "Sunderland are still interested, having had him on loan and then sent him back, but there's other clubs as well.

"Ipswich could be another one to watch, and I'd heard that Fiorentina quite like the player too, so he will be quite easy for Chelsea to offload because they only signed him for £5m."

Alex's verdict

I don't think that Guiu is the kind of striker that Ipswich will be after this summer.

That's not to say that they won't need another no.9 - I feel like they do - but following the arrival of 21-year-old Emersonn from Toulouse for a club-record fee, I think it's clear that Town need an older option with more experience.

Guiu isn't that. I'm sure he'll leave Chelsea in some regard this summer, as reported, but I'd be shocked if Portman Road was his destination.
