Newcastle United STILL haven't had any contact from Arsenal on Bruno Guimaraes - despite suggestions that the Magpies and Gunners had touched base officially yesterday.

Reports of club-to-club contact were dismissed by high-placed sources at United yesterday, and the plan is to get Bruno 'back in the building' next month.

For all that, the Bruno Arsenal saga still feels like it has some distance left to run and that things could get tastier from the Emirates Stadium end before the window slams shut.

There was radio silence when Chronicle Live checked the story out at the Arsenal end on Tuesday night at the close of play.

Whether that is the Gunners planting seeds in Bruno's head and giving the Toon skipper something to think about remains to be seen. But at the moment, one Toon source stated: "There is no envelope to even open right now."

It is a frustrating set of circumstances for Eddie Howe who does not want to see one of his star players leave and further deplete the side that finished fifth only in 2025.

Having Joelinton back at the KNOX has been a boost with Bruno's big pal smiling and performing media duties for the in-house channel this week. But even Joelinton knows how the game works, and if a major payday is being waved the way of the ex-Lyon man, his head may already be turned.

We were told that there were concerns on the club's sporting project from Bruno and questions on the direction the club was heading after key sales. And the usually vocal midfielder has not reassured anybody on his social channels since the World Cup finals ended in disappointment for him, and Brazil were dumped out by Norway.

Bruno may also have had Brazil counterparts and Arsenal duo Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli potentially in his ear during the tournament in the States.

However, Newcastle can do nothing but try to get their captain focused for the new season and ensure he is fighting fit to help them climb back up the table, something that may hard without him given the exodus of stars this summer.
