Sunderland have made an approach for Feyenoord’s Anis Hadj Moussa, after following him for months.
In March, Sport Witness relayed news of the Premier League side leading the race to sign the winger.
Sunderland haven’t made any advances until recently, while other clubs have joined the transfer battle.
Recently claims have mentioned Aston Villa interest, an option that reportedly excites the 24-year-old. On July 3rd, Hadj Moussa’s agent Mohamed Dahman revealed he’s looking for a new club this summer.
He said: “Anis Hadj Moussa will play for another team, God willing.”
Sunderland face competition
Fr12.nl, a website focusing their coverage on the Eredivisie side, reports on the Black Cats, Como and Paris FC’s interest in the 24-year-old.
These clubs have recently asked about the France-born Algeria international. It’s not clear whether Sunderland contacted his agent, Feyenoord or both.
The Dutch club have already turned down an offer from Al-Ahli, who are now working on signing Sporting’s Francisco Trincão.
Feyenoord seem open to a sale and have set a €37m price for Anis Hadj Moussa. For now, the attacker’s exit is paused despite the growing interest.
Sunderland, Como and Paris FC haven’t submitted bids so far, and Feyenoord are waiting to see if one of his suitors make a concrete offer.
Como and Régis Le Bris’ side can offer European football next season, having qualified for the Champions League and the Europa League respectively. The Ligue 1 side won’t play in Europe.
Our take: Why Sunderland move questionable
Anis Hadj Moussa prefers to operate on the right wing. Last season, he only played in this position, managing 14 goals and seven assists.
Régis Le Bris has Chemsdine Talbi and Jocelin Ta Bi as the two right wingers, and both have contracts until 2030.
Ta Bi, who arrived in January, played two matches for Sunderland as an injury restricted his game time.
If he goes out on loan, then it would make sense for them to sign the Algerian. Otherwise, the Black Cats are unlikely to strengthen this position.
