According to various reports, Arsenal are stepping up their pursuit of Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis now that Leandro Trossard’s move to Besiktas is all but complete.
The 24-year-old, who predominantly operates off the left, enjoyed a superb campaign as Club Brugge secured their 20th Belgian league title.
His return of 17 goals and 23 assists in 36 league appearances earned him the Jupiler Pro League’s Player of the Season award, while he also impressed in the Champions League, albeit not in December’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal.
A move to the Emirates would represent a second crack at English football after an underwhelming spell at Norwich City. Tzolis spent three years on the Canaries’ books, making his Premier League debut against Arsenal in September 2021, but failed to establish himself and spent two of those seasons out on loan with FC Twente and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Club Brugge took a chance on him two years ago, signing him for around €6 million, and that decision has paid off handsomely.
Whether he can replicate that form in the Premier League is another question, but there’s clearly a talented player in there.
If Arsenal do get this one over the line, they’ll be backing Arteta to coax the best out of him once again.
BBC Sport claims the proposed deal for Tzolis sits separate to interest in other attacking targets, including Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers and PSG’s Bradley Barcola.
