Newcastle United's first team players were back on the grass on Tuesday as Eddie Howe stepped up their preparations ahead of the 2026/27 season.

After the first team squad returned to the KNOX training centre on Monday for individual testing, Tuesday represented the first chance for Howe and his coaching staff to get to work with the players on the pitch ahead of a robust pre-season schedule.

The Magpies take on Darlington in a behind closed doors friendly this weekend before a pre-season calendar that sees them make trips to Gateshead and Bristol City before a warm weather training camp in La Manga culminates in a friendly against Valencia at the Mestalla Stadium.

They then return to the UK to take on Everton at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh before they round off the summer with a double header of games against Bayer Leverkusen and Strasbourg at St James' Park for the VisitMalta Weekender.

But with Lewis Miley and Tino Livramento recovering from injury and the likes of Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, Bazoumana Toure, Yoane Wissa, Anthony Elanga, Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw given extra time off because of their World Cup involvement, it has allowed some of the club's talented young players to be given a chance to impress in pre-season.

Sean Neave, Alex Murphy and Leo Shahar are classed as first team players now, while youngsters Ewen Jaouen and Sean Steur have been signed this summer with the intention of going straight into the first team.

But there were five other youngsters pictured taking part in training on Tuesday who could now play a part in pre-season, should they impress. Chronicle Live has taken a look at the Newcastle youngsters spotted in first team training.

Trevan Sanusi

Newcastle had high hopes for Sanusi and Eddie Howe handed him his first team debut off the bench in their FA Cup win over Bromley back in January 2025.

Since then, he joined Ligue 1 side Lorient on a season-long loan deal last term but did not make a single league appearance, being restricted to just two appearances in the Coupe de France.

Having arrived at the club with an injury, Lorient boss Olivier Pantaloni said in May they felt he was not ready to play in Ligue 1 and fears he may have 'suffered' during his time in France.

But his call-up to first team training would have been a major boost and the 19-year-old winger is back on Tyneside with a point to prove this season.

Seung-soo Park

Park enjoyed a fantastic pre-season last summer after joining the club from Suwon Bluewings and he impressed so much he was named on the bench for the opening Premier League game of the season against Aston Villa.

Curiously, he was also on the bench at the same venue for Newcastle's FA Cup win over the Villans in February and he impressed at under-21 level during his first season on Tyneside.

Newcastle have high hopes for the young winger, who will hook up with South Korea's under-23 squad for the Asian Games in September.

Matheos Ferreira

Another wide talent, Ferreira grabbed the headlines back in December when his hat-trick inspired Newcastle's under-18s to an FA Youth Cup win over Portsmouth.

Since then, he has taken the step up to under-21 level in his stride and that has seen him being given an opportunity to impress Howe in first team training this summer.

His story is unique, too. Born in Ashington and raised in Berwick, Ferreira has Brazilian parents and his mother has Italian heritage. As a result, he is eligible to represent all three countries in the future. The 17-year-old is certainly one to watch.

Anthony Munda

Munda is a midfielder who has regularly been watched by scouts in the Football League across the last season and is probably ready for a loan move this term.

One of the most consistent performers for the under-21 side, the 19-year-old is no stranger to training with the first team and will hope to get a chance to shine across the next couple of weeks.

Dylan Charlton

Charlton is a 20-year-old left-back who, like Munda, has been a consistent performer at under-21 level for a while now. With Livramento injured and no sufficient left-back cover for Lewis Hall, he may well get an opportunity in the early weeks of pre-season.
