Santiago Castro

Everton‘s Beto has repeatedly been linked with a return to Italy and the Toffees have an idea about how to replace him.
Since joining them in 2023 for €30m, Beto has had a mixed time. He’s scored 25 times in 111 games in all competitions, but is yet to get into double figures for a league season.
Part of that is down to a lack of regular game time, especially as Beto scored nine times in around 1500 minutes last season. That isn’t a bad output, but question marks remain over whether he is really their first-choice striker or not.
Now, Everton could be prepared to part ways and sign a replacement.
Interest in Santiago Castro
Today’s Corriere di Bologna look at possible outgoings from Bologna, who failed to qualify for Europe in the 2025/26 campaign. This can force them into parting ways with big names like Santiago Castro or Jonathan Rowe.
The Rossoblu would only be keen on selling one of the two, and Premier League interest is growing. While Chelsea are interested in the Englishman, Everton’s interest in Castro is perhaps stronger.
The newspaper state the 21-year-old is on the Toffees’ shortlist if Beto is sold. It isn’t certain whether Castro would be the main target but the Toffees are fans of his profile.
This comes after Nottingham Forest have been linked with the South American. At that point, Bologna’s valuation was €40m and tit will remain the same.
Our take: Castro could be a gamble
In the last two seasons, Castro has scored 15 goals for Bologna, adding eight assists. Like Beto, he also hasn’t crossed the ten-goal mark, but has been a very reliable link-up striker.
There are concerns about the Argentine’s consistency. He scores goals in patches and then has a mini drought.
