Former Leeds United ace linked with unexpected move abroad – the grass isn’t always greener:…

Leeds United supporters have had to endure a couple of kicks in the teeth when it comes to transfers that have happened this summer.

Despite being offered a deal to stay in West Yorkshire, Karl Darlow opted to make the unforgivable move to Manchester United.

Our longest-serving player, Pascal Struijk, also left the Whites this summer to join Brighton.

Although he is no longer our player, the fact that Crysencio Summerville has been linked with a move to Manchester United is also disappointing. But now, the Dutch winger has been linked with a new move nobody would have expected.

Crysencio Summerville now the subject of Saudi interest

According to the latest reports from journalist Sacha Tavolieri on X, Al Hilal have entered the race to sign Summerville. The winger looks destined to leave West Ham this summer.

The Saudi club are said to have officially opened talks with the player’s camp over the possibility of a potential deal. West Ham are said to have been notified of their interest.

Tavolieri also mentions that Roma are another club who are said to be interested in securing the winger’s services.

From a selfish perspective, as long as neither of these clubs is Manchester United, then I can at least keep some of the fond memories I have of Summerville playing for Leeds.

Summerville is already no longer the most popular figure at Elland Road. So if he did move to Man United, that would certainly burn any remaining bridges he had with supporters.

Leeds United fans would find the potential Crysencio Summerville to Saudi move amusing

The supporters inside Elland Road who booed Summerville during our game with West Ham last season will likely find a potential Summerville move to Saudi Arabia hilarious.

When the winger left Elland Road in 2024, he surely would never have imagined that he could potentially be playing in a retirement league by the time 2026 came around.

If he does end up making the move to Al-Hilal, that will clearly show where his motivations lie. It would completley stall his career trajectory.

Summerville did manage to force his way into the Netherlands’ World Cup squad. The 24-year-old featured four times at the tournament, scoring two goals in the process.

But if he does move to Saudi, that could potentially be the last major tournament of his career.

Al-Hilal is not the only club Summerville has been linked with this summer. But I never really understood why he was linked with Man United.

As much as I don’t like them, they did come third in the Premier League last season. I just don’t think Summerville is capable of playing at that level yet.

Summerville has had one outstanding season for us in the Championship, and one decent season for West Ham last season.

Ultimately, I don’t think that’s enough to justify him moving to a top Premier League side. A Roma move, as Tavolieri reported, would make a lot more sense on paper.

But the fact that he could’ve stayed and been a Premier League player at Leeds shows that the grass is not always greener when you leave.

Especially if Summerville ends up moving to Saudi.
